Since its inception in 1993, MMR has recycled over 3.5 million tons (nearly 15 million cubic yards) of wood waste material. Most all of this material was converted to “green” electricity for the use by the residences of Michigan.

Beginning in October 2002, MMR has worked directly with the Michigan Department of Agriculture and the Federal Department of Agriculture as a participant in the disposal/recycling of emerald ash borer (EAB) affected trees. Burning affected trees in the boiler of the Genesee Power Station was, and still is, the preferred method of disposal/recycling because there is no doubt of the beetle’s complete destruction. MMR, in combination with the Department of Natural Resources and the Department of Agriculture also participated in other methods of safely recycling ash logs for higher value uses.

MMR ownership is 50/50 by subsidiaries of CMS Enterprises Company (CMSE) and Primary Power International (PPI). CMSE, located in Jackson, Michigan, is the non-regulated subsidiary of CMS Energy Corporation, an integrated energy infrastructure company. On the utility side of CMS Energy is Consumers Energy a combined electric and natural gas utility located in Jackson, Michigan. PPI, located in Ithaca, Michigan, established in 1981 is one of the early independent power development companies. PPI is dedicated to the promotion of renewable energy and other clean energy processes.
